Queen Elizabeth National Park
Tree-climbing lions & the Kazinga Channel
About this destination
Uganda's most visited park — savannah, crater lakes, and the storied Ishasha tree-climbing lions.
Queen Elizabeth straddles the equator at the foot of the Rwenzori Mountains. The Kazinga Channel — a 32-km natural waterway between Lake Edward and Lake George — hosts the densest concentration of hippos in Africa and a constant parade of buffalo and elephant.
The Ishasha sector in the south is famous for its tree-climbing lions, draped through fig trees in the heat of the day. Kyambura Gorge offers chimpanzee tracking in a sunken rift forest.
More than 600 bird species — the highest count of any African protected area — make this a birder's pilgrimage.
