Three days, one of Uganda's flagship parks, and one of the rarest sights in Africa: lions draped along the branches of a fig tree as if the savanna had laid them out for you. This short escape lets the western parks unfold quickly — game drives at first light, hippos breathing on the Kazinga Channel at noon, the Ishasha plains at golden hour.
Day 1 — Roll west out of Kampala as the city loosens its grip. Through the green tea hills of Fort Portal and onward into Queen Elizabeth, where the afternoon light pulls buffalo, elephant and antelope out of the long grass. Overnight at Irungu Forest Safari Lodge or an upgraded camp.
Day 2 — Out before dawn for the Kasenyi plains — Uganda kob barking in the half-light, waterbuck statue-still at the waterholes, hyena tracks still fresh on the road. Afternoon: a 36-km boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel between Lake George and Lake Edward, the densest concentration of hippos in Africa parting around the bow.
Day 3 — South to the Ishasha sector to track the famous tree-climbing lions, then back across the country with a ceremonial pause at the Equator stone in Kayabwe.
