A six-day expedition up Mount Elgon's Wagagai Peak (4,321 m) — the world's largest caldera, ancient caves, waterfalls and moorlands.
This 6 Days Mt Elgon Hiking expedition starts and ends in Kampala. You will summit Wagagai Peak at 4,321 metres above sea level — the highest point of an extinct volcano holding the largest caldera on the planet.
Day 1 — Drive Kampala to Mount Elgon via Mabira Forest and Mbale, overnight at Rose's Last Chance community camp.
Day 2 — Budadiri to Sasa River Camp (2,900 m), an 8 km, 8-hour ascent through montane and bamboo forest.
Day 3 — Sasa River Camp through bamboo, heath and moorland to Mude Camp (3,500 m).
Day 4 — Summit Wagagai Peak (4,321 m), explore the caldera with views into Kenya, return to Mude Camp.
Day 5 — Descend to Budadiri, transfer to Sipi Falls in Kapchorwa for the three-tier waterfalls and overnight at Sipi River Lodge.
Day 6 — Drive back to Kampala via Mbale and Jinja.
Price: $1,200 – $4,500 per person depending on group size and lodging tier.
