Mount Elgon & Sipi Falls
The world's largest caldera & a three-tier waterfall
About this destination
An extinct shield volcano with the planet's largest caldera, framed by the Sipi Falls trio and Arabica coffee farms.
Mount Elgon's Wagagai peak rises to 4,321 metres above the Kenya–Uganda border. Multi-day treks cross bamboo, heath and Afro-alpine moorland to a 40 km² caldera at the summit — the largest of any volcano on earth.
On the lower slopes, the village of Kapchorwa cradles the three-tier Sipi Falls. Day-hikers cross suspension bridges, cool off behind the lower fall and finish at an Arabica coffee washing station.
