Mabira Forest Reserve
A primary rainforest beside the highway
About this destination
306 km² of moist tropical forest between Kampala and Jinja — primates, butterflies and zip-lines in the canopy.
Mabira is the largest block of moist semi-deciduous forest in central Uganda — a green island either side of the Kampala–Jinja highway. Guided forest walks bring red-tailed monkeys, grey-cheeked mangabeys, vervets and over 315 bird species.
Active travellers can zip-line through the canopy, mountain bike on cleared trails, or stay overnight at the eco-lodge Rainforest Lodge.
