Lake Nakuru National Park
Pink-rimmed soda lake & rhino sanctuary
About this destination
A Rift Valley alkaline lake fringed by flamingos, with one of Kenya's largest populations of black and white rhino.
Nakuru's shallow soda waters once turned pink with millions of lesser flamingos — and although the flock now shifts between Nakuru, Bogoria and Elementaita with the lake's water levels, the spectacle still happens here.
The 188 km² park is fully fenced as a rhino sanctuary: more than 70 black and 50 white rhino, plus Rothschild's giraffe, lion, leopard and 450 bird species. The Out-of-Africa viewpoint above Baboon Cliff is the classic photo stop.
