Day 1 — Tarangire / Lake Manyara, Tanzania — pickup in Arusha and an afternoon game drive amid the great elephant herds and the baobabs.

Day 2 — Across into the Serengeti for a Seronera-area game drive — the cat country of Africa.

Day 3 — Serengeti back to Ngorongoro with a morning game drive en route.

Day 4 — A Ngorongoro Crater morning, then on to Arusha and a flight up to Nairobi.

Day 5 — Hell's Gate National Park, Kenya — the only park you walk and cycle through, walls of basalt closing overhead.

Day 6 — North to Lake Nakuru for the flamingos and the white rhino.

Day 7 — From Nakuru into the Maasai Mara.

Day 8 — Full day in the Mara, then north to Nairobi and on to Entebbe.

Day 9 — Ngamba Island chimpanzee sanctuary on Lake Victoria.

Day 10 — West to Kibale Forest via Fort Portal.

Day 11 — Dawn chimpanzee tracking in Kibale.

Day 12 — South across into Rwanda for Volcanoes National Park (Parc National des Volcans).

Day 13 — Volcanoes gorilla morning — bamboo, vine, the silverback at five paces.

Day 14 — Back to Kampala or out via Kigali.
