Lake Manyara National Park
Tree-climbing lions & flamingo skies
About this destination
A jewel-box park beneath the Great Rift escarpment — groundwater forest, alkaline lake and a prized Big Five start to the northern circuit.
Manyara is small (330 km²) but layered: groundwater fig forest at the entrance, then open floodplain along the soda lake where pink ribbons of flamingo gather. Tree-climbing lions are an occasional thrill in the acacia tortilis woodland.
Add the canopy walkway and night game drives — Manyara is one of the few northern circuit parks where after-dark drives are permitted.
