Arusha National Park
Mount Meru, the Momela Lakes & a quiet Big Four
About this destination
A small, scenic park at the foot of Mt Meru — perfect for a half-day before or after the Northern Circuit.
Arusha National Park packs three habitats into 552 km²: the Ngurdoto Crater grasslands, the alkaline Momela Lakes (flamingos, hippos), and the montane forest climbing Mount Meru. Walking safaris and canoeing on the Momela Lakes are both permitted — rare for Tanzania.
It's the natural launchpad for a 3 or 4-day Mt Meru summit climb (4,566 m), the perfect Kilimanjaro acclimatiser.
