Nyungwe Forest National Park
East Africa's oldest rainforest
About this destination
1,019 km² of pristine montane forest — chimpanzees, 13 primate species, and Africa's only canopy walkway.
Nyungwe is the largest protected mountain rainforest in Africa, draped over the Congo–Nile watershed. The 70-metre-high suspended canopy walkway is a defining experience — three platforms strung between giant emergents at the height of the forest's crown.
Chimpanzee tracking happens at dawn from the Uwinka trailhead. The 400-strong Angolan colobus troops are the largest arboreal primate group in Africa.
End at One&Only Nyungwe House or Nyungwe Top View Hotel, both perched in tea estates on the forest edge.
