Four days, two countries, two great primate encounters — designed for travellers with one week of holiday and a lifetime's longing to see the gorillas. Start and finish in Kigali; meet the golden monkeys in Rwanda, meet the gorillas in Uganda, and let Lake Bunyonyi catch your breath at the end.
Day 1 — Arrive Kigali International and roll north on the smooth tar to Musanze, the volcanoes lifting one by one out of the cloud. Optional Kigali Genocide Memorial or the Twin Lakes (Burera and Ruhondo) en route. Overnight at Da Vinci Gorilla Lodge.
Day 2 — At first light, into the bamboo of Volcanoes NP among the golden monkeys, then a quiet crossing at Cyanika into Uganda and onward to Bwindi Impenetrable. Overnight at Rushaga Gorilla Lodge.
Day 3 — The forest morning — two to six hours of climbing for the held magical hour with a habituated family — then on to Lake Bunyonyi as the day softens. Overnight at Bird Nest Bunyonyi Resort.
Day 4 — A morning canoe glide between the islands of Bunyonyi, the bird-rich water at its calmest, with a pause at Punishment Island. Scenic return to Kigali International for departure.
