The Package
A week deep in Uganda's wild north-east โ Kidepo Valley wildlife, the IK tribe of Mount Morungole, Dodoth and Jie communities, and Nyero rock paintings.
A week in the part of Uganda almost no tourist sees โ Karamoja, raw and wide, where the cattle markets are the original social network and Kidepo Valley still feels like the Africa of imagination. This is travel as invitation, not transaction.
Day 1 โ The long pull north from Entebbe via Gulu to Kidepo Valley NP (9โ10 hours), the country emptying and the sky widening with every kilometre. Overnight at Zebra Safari Lodge.
Day 2 โ A full day in Narus and Kidepo valleys for the Big 4 โ lion, elephant, leopard, buffalo โ plus cheetah, hyena, kob, oribi, zebra and giraffe; in the late afternoon, the Kanangorok hot springs near the South Sudan border.
Day 3 โ Up Mount Morungole (4 hours up, 2 down) to meet the IK people, Uganda's smallest tribe, who have lived in this high stronghold for longer than most countries have existed.
Day 4 โ A Dodoth community visit at Kaabong, then on to Kotido (3โ4 hours) for the warrior Jie. Overnight at Karamoja Overland Camp.
Day 5 โ The traditional cattle market in Kotido (Wednesdays only) โ beading, dancing, friendly wrestling, bow-and-arrow shooting. Onward to Moroto for a night in a kraal with the shepherds. Overnight at Kara-Tunga Safari Camp.
Day 6 โ South to Soroti via Kumi (6โ7 hours) for the Nyero rock paintings โ ancient marks left by the Batwa, long before the cattle came.
Day 7 โ The road back to Kampala / Entebbe (7โ8 hours) via a Jinja lunch.
Price: $1,875 per person sharing on mid-range camps.
